India Pale Ales made their entrance when British ships crossed the oceans on their way to remote colonies. To better preserve their favorite beers during the voyage, British brewers added hops. Since his arrival on Antwerp soil in 1909, brewer John Martin honored this beer with the unique dry-hopping technique. This involves adding hop flowers at the end of fermentation, giving Martin's IPA a fruity and particularly balanced bitterness. Martin's IPA 55 is a classic from Genval brewed by Brewery John Martin & Brewery Timmermans. With an alcohol content of 6.5 percent and a volume of 330 milliliters, this is a refined IPA that doesn't come across as heavy but offers plenty of characterful hop flower aromas.
