About this release

An annual tradition: our blend of stout and barleywine together with Messorem. This time a barleywine that matured for 28 months in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels, mixed with a blend of barleywine and imperial stout that matured for 30 months in Bearface Canadian whisky barrels from the men at Messo. This unique project comes from Brasserie Sir John Brewing Co., a Canadian brewery from Lachute, Quebec, that focuses on brewing craft beers with an emphasis on quality and local ingredients. Pitch black in color, with soft cocoa aromas reminiscent of 95% pure chocolate. Not too heavy, but certainly not a beer to knock back, because with an alcohol content of 11.3% this is a serious beer. This is a late-night sipper, smooth and warming, more digestif than thirst quencher. The barrel character weaves subtly through it and maintains a perfect balance between creaminess, acidity and bitterness, with faint, peaty notes of cigar, fig and date cake and a hint of extra spiciness. A grateful tribute to the long-standing friendship with Messorem and a beer that reflects the vibrant beer culture of Quebec. Cheers!
